Overview
Mastik ("we", "us", "our") provides free, browser-based tools for converting, compressing, and editing your own video and audio files. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use mastik.io, why we collect it, and the choices you have. By using the site you agree to the practices described here.
Information we collect
We collect very little personal data. Our tools run entirely in your browser, so the files you convert, compress or edit are processed on your own device and are never uploaded to us. We do automatically receive standard technical data such as your IP address, browser type, device type, referring page, and approximate location (derived from IP), which is used for security, analytics, and serving relevant ads. We do not require you to create an account and we do not ask for your name, email, or payment details to use the tools.
Your files are never uploaded
Mastik does not keep a copy of the files you work with. The tools use WebAssembly to run entirely inside your browser, so your video or audio file is read, processed and saved back on your own device — it never reaches our servers, and we do not maintain any library or archive of your files.
Third-party services
We rely on third-party providers to operate the site, including hosting and content-delivery providers, analytics tools, and advertising partners (Google AdSense). These providers may process technical data (such as IP address and request metadata) under their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to review.
Cookies and advertising
We use cookies and similar technologies to remember basic preferences (such as your selected language) and to support advertising. Mastik is ad-supported and displays ads served by Google, including through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies and device identifiers to serve ads, measure performance, and, where permitted, personalize ads based on your visits to this and other sites. In the EU/EEA, the UK, Switzerland and Canada we do not load these advertising and analytics technologies until you accept cookies via our consent banner. Elsewhere they load by default, and you can turn them off at any time in the cookie settings on our Cookie Policy page. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, and you can manage or opt out of personalized Google ads at any time via Google's Ads Settings (adssettings.google.com) and the opt-out tools at aboutads.info.
Legal basis and data retention
Where GDPR applies, we process technical and log data on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating, securing, and improving the service, and rely on consent for non-essential cookies where required. Server logs are retained only as long as reasonably necessary for security and troubleshooting and are then deleted or anonymized.
Your rights (GDPR / CCPA)
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export data we hold about you, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for targeted advertising under laws such as the EU/UK GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Because we collect minimal personal data and do not create user accounts, most requests relate to cookie and advertising data. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details in our Contact page and we will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
Children's privacy
Mastik is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required by local law) and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we process. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised. Continued use of the site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
